This Is A Picture of my first ever Car I bought with my own money for £150 (British Pounds) in 1971.
It Was A Ford Consul Cortina MK1 1500cc De Luxe. I Got it from a Garage in Kenoway (Fife)
The De Luxe Version had all the trimmings (Chrome) from the Basic Version.
The Garage has long gone now but it was up that little lane in middle of Picture.
My Registration was a "C" Reg (1965) as this one is a "D" Reg 1966 Model.
Its Exactly The same as I knew it from 1971 Geez I wish I had another one just like it now lol.
£150 was a lot of money in 1971 but i had saved it up from my Army Pay and also Passed my Driving Test in a Bedford RL Army Truck Previous!!!!.
I Passed my Driving Test in This Type of truck driving through Ayr, Troon at Dundonald Camp i was stationed at. when i was 16 years old.
I always remember the Gear shift was behind you on the left hand side as you see in the picture.
Making Gear 1 to the left then down. gear 2 was to the left and up. gear 3 was to the right then down and gear 4 was to the right then up.
reverse was think right over to the right past the gate then up?
yes I was right lol.
But in the Car was much more Easier.
Smooooootherrrrrrr!!!
I think My fathers car he had at the time i got this car was a black Morris Minor 1000
he preferred my car to his and I always gave him a shot of it when he asked lol.
And as always the song that was in my mind at the time was this one that came on on my car radio.....(It even had an 8 track cassette player hehehe.
